Memories

Picture
The Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic was where we visited for pre and post transplant procedures.  This was my first visit.  I had mixed emotions.

We stayed at the Best Western Motel until a room became available at the Ronald McDonald House.  I was holding a pillow that my grandmother's friend gave to me.  It says "I Believe in Angels".

Picture
My sister, Rachel, celebrated her 13th birthday a few days before I checked into the hospital.

Picture
I was holding a Precious Moments angel ornament that a friend, Ben, gave to me.  The angel hung on my IV pole the first day I went into the hospital until the day I was released.  I also hung the angel beside my bed at the Ronald McDonald House.

I was receiving chemotherapy.  I slept through these treatments.

Even though I was sick, I continued to pose for the camera.

I am receiving another dose of chemotherapy.

Picture
My skin was burned and red from the radiation.  My mom told me that I looked like I had gone to the beach and got a sunburn.

Picture
I was holding the donor marrow before they started the infusion.  I felt very blessed.

Picture
Mom and I felt some relief as my new marrow slowly worked it's way into my body.  It was amazing!

Picture
The door to my isolation room.  Anyone who entered had to be sanitized.

Picture
My room was covered with get well wishes from home.

Picture
My nanny visited me while I was in the hospital.

Picture
I began losing my hair.

Picture
I decided to have my head shaved.

Picture
My dad encouraged me.  The do-rag was his idea.

Picture
My fiance (now husband), Brent, saw my bald head for the first time.

Picture
My friend, Natasha, and I attended the World Figure Skating Championship.  We sat in a sky box at the Target Center.  The doctors said the masks were necessary in public places.

Picture
I met my friend Amy at the Ronald McDonald House.  Sadly, leukemia took Amy's life.

Picture
Dr. Peters and I the day before I returned to Tennessee.

Picture
My care partners and I as I head to the airport.  Connie (on my right) became a very close family friend.

Picture
I celebrated my 19th birthday at home.
